Re-establishing artisanship efficiency and value in
domestic furniture

About

Present furniture design for the budget mass market segment has too often fallen victim to continuous cost cutting. This has resulted in current offerings exhibiting few, if any, genuine styling features. Instead, many products on display in furniture retail outlets now follow a common featureless model of excessively dimensioned components such as legs and tops having no profiling of the stock timber materials. This reflects the removal from the high volume production processes where such styling features incur extra costs in their implementation.
However, in recent years there has been developments in the tools and materials available for furniture fabrication. And a very wide range of options are now available for adding unique artisanal features to small volume hand crafted furniture.
